My research is primary focused on the interdisciplinary field of risk assessment and regulation of chemicals and plastics. Especially the topic of how science is used for regulatory purposes has my interest. This is a field that draws upon an array of disciplines such as toxicology, ecotoxicology, governance, risk communication, risk perception as well as knowledge about different regulatory paradigms. Understanding of such a variety of disciplines is fundamental for conducting research regarding how science is used for regulatory purposes.
In recent years I have focused mainly of plastic pollution, and have conducted several different studies relating to topics such as: Monitoring in coastal waters, open ocean and freshwater systems, ecotoxicological studies of direct effects and indirect vector effects, analyses og regulatory systems and stakeholder involvement and citizen science and local solutions to plastic pollution. This work have been conducted in collaboration with many different partners in acadamia, industry, authorities and NGOs.
