Katerina Kaouri is a Lecturer in Applied Mathematics
at Cardiff University. She holds a DPhil in Applied Mathematics from the University of Oxford, fully funded by the Sonic Boom European Research Programme and coordinated by AIRBUS
. She also has an MSc in Mathematical Modelling and Scientific Computing from Oxford and a BA in Mathematics from Cambridge. In her research she uses mathematical modelling for solving cutting-edge real-life challenges.
She has worked as a business consultant, at the Boston Consulting Group and the Enterprise Europe Network. She is passionate about academia-industry collaborations. In 2016 she led the 125th European Study Group with Industry
in Cyprus, a weeklong workshop where 50 mathematical modellers from 17 countries tackled four industrial challenges. She is a core member of the Mathematics for Industry Network
(COST Action TD1409) and of the H2020 SciShops.eu
project in which researchers in 12 countries work with society on pressing problems.
Katerina has in-depth expertise in science communication
. She is co-founder and Director of the non-profit organization SciCo Cyprus
and of the Mediterranean Science Festival
, she has given many talks to diverse audiences (e.g. TEDxNicosia
) and created a TED-Ed animation
which has 1.5+ million views.
