Mike Galsworthy is co-founder of the ‘Scientists for EU’ and 'Healthier in the EU' campaigns which were initiated to advocate continued EU membership during the UK's referendum debate. Those campaigns continue to analyse & communicate the situation as the Brexit negotiations continue. Previous to initiating the campaigns, Mike was an independent consultant in research and innovation policy. His work before that was in health services research, based at University College London (UCL) and the Royal College of Anaesthetists. This followed 10 years of life sciences research in Switzerland & Slovenia, after getting his PhD from King’s College London in Behaviour Genetics.
Mike’s commentary on UK-EU research relations has been cited in Government and House of Lords documents. Mike has written academic papers and media pieces on EU research programmes since 2009, has given invited talks on science policy around the UK & Europe, and has been vocal on why the UK should stay in the EU for science since 2013. He also regularly produces commentary videos on Brexit-related issues, both from the Scientists for EU Facebook page and also via his personal Twitter channel (@mikegalsworthy). Those videos have had many millions of views since 2016.
