Mathias Rauch is the Head of Department "European Research Area" of Fraunhofer and Director of its EU Office in Brussels. Prior to that position he spent two years as a Seconded National Expert with the European Commission’s Directorate General for Research and Innovation.
From 2006 to 2012 he was Deputy Director of the Fraunhofer Center for International Management and Knowledge Economy IMW in Leipzig, Germany. Before joining Fraunhofer, Mathias was a Research Fellow and Project Coordinator at the Department of Economic Policy Research at the University of Leipzig.
He is a member of the UN Economic Commission for Europe’s Expert Group on Innovation and Competitiveness Policies. He has authored and co-authored several research reports on regional economic integration and its impact on competitiveness and innovation policies, R&D and innovation policy evaluation, framework conditions and incentive schemes for innovation and entrepreneurship, and international linkages of research driven clusters.
He studied Economics, Political Science and Law in Leipzig, and holds a MA degree in International Studies from the University of Newcastle upon Tyne. He also is a certified Business Mediator, specializing in international business mediation.
