Dr. Arnthor Ævarsson was born in Iceland 1963. He studied biology, chemistry and biotechnology (B.Sc., M.Sc.) and earned his Ph.D. in Molecular Biophysics at University of Lund, Sweden (1985-96). He was a Post-doc at University of Washington in Seattle, USA (1996-99) specializing in protein crystallography and structural biology. He was director of Bioinformatics at Prokaria ehf and later the CEO of the innovative biotech companies Prokatin ehf and Prokazyme ehf in Iceland (1999-2017). The 25 years of research experience include studies on thermophilic microorganisms, viruses, enzyme structure and function, biodiscovery and biotechnology. He is currently working as an independent consultant for Matis ohf in Iceland and is coordinating the 8 M€ research project Virus-X
involving 14 European universities, institutions and companies and funded by the European Horizon 2020
research and innovation programme. Dr. Ævarsson has published over 20 research papers, articles and book chapters and co-authors 3 issued patents in biotechnology. His latest article can be seen in the current July issue of the French science magazine La Recherche
. Relocating from USA, Dr. Ævarsson lives since 1999 with his wife Anna Lilja in Hveragerdi, a small town in a geothermal area in S-Iceland.
