Francesca BEOLCHINI is Associate Professor of Chemical Engineering at the Department of Life and Environmental Sciences of the Polytechnic University of Marche, in Ancona (Italy). Her main research activities are in the field of chemical engineering for the environment, dealing with the development of environmentally sustainable innovative processes for valuable metal recovery from waste (urban mining
), based on hydrometallurgy/biohydrometallurgy. Her scientific production is documented by more than 100 high impact publications , and 5 patents. She is also co-founder of a University spin off company, ECORecycling, whose mission is the technology transfer to SMEs in the field of urban mining.
Francesca started her scientific career with a Master degree in Chemical Engineering at the University of L’Aquila, Italy, in 1995, with a dissertation on metal biosorption, followed by a PhD in Chemical Engineering at the University “Federico II” of Naples, with a dissertation on gold extraction from refractory sulphide ores. She subsequently held a position of Assistant Professor at the University of L’Aquila, and then, in 2003, she moved to the Polytechnic University of Marche, where she founded the Environmental technologies lab, that she is currently leading.
