I’m a Belgian Biologist and Career Manager
at the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ) in Heidelberg since 2011. The DKFZ Career Service offers career guidance by giving one-on-one career advice, organising workshops and career days and facilitating networking with Alumni. As one of the three first Postdoc Career Centers
(funded by the Helmholtz Association for 3+2 years) we will focus on structured Career Development Plans, competence development and mentoring.
I studied Biotechnology in Ghent (Belgium) and spent research time at the Uppsala BMC (Sweden), the EMBL (Heidelberg) and the NKI (Amsterdam). After my postdoc in cell biology (Institut Curie in Paris) I worked for Wiley-Blackwell from 2005 to 2010. I was Managing Editor and co-Editor-in-Chief of Biotechnology Journal and managed related journals in Lipid Sciences and Engineering in Life Sciences. From 2007 to 2017 I regularly taught freelance workshops on Scientific Writing. I completed several management and leadership training courses (Führungkolloquium Wiley in 2009, Advanced Lehrgang Wissenschaftsmanagement ZWM in 2015, Führungswerkstatt DKFZ in 2017).
Together with Sarah Blackford (London) we set up a Group for Careers Advisers supporting Researchers in Europe (CARE)
at ESOF 2014 in Copenhagen.
