As Science Officer at COST, Mafalda supports Actions in transdisciplinary and emerging topics. She focuses on helping the different scientific communities in creating the right conditions for Open and Inclusive Networks to deliver true innovative results and assuring impacts are maximised.
Prior to joining COST, Mafalda was a post-doctoral research fellow in Food Materials Science at University of Minho in Portugal. She published a number of papers in international peer reviewed journals, coordinated research proposals and projects, and co-supervised of Master and PhD thesis. She was responsible for a network on the identification of the skills needed by food industry professionals.
Mafalda obtained her PhD in 2007 from the Portuguese Catholic University and her diploma work was concerned with the use of statistical/mathematical models to understand the physical and chemical phenomena in food systems.
