Dr. Matthias Weber is Head of Center for Innovation Systems and Policy at AIT Austrian Institute of Technology in Vienna. Before joining AIT in 2000, he had been working for several years at the European Commission’s Institute for Prospective Technological Studies IPTS in Seville and Ispra. Next to his research work on science-industry relations, the impact of foresight on policymaking and the governance of innovation system, he is advising national governments, European institutions and international organisations on matters of RTI policy from a forward-looking perspective. He served on several European and national expert groups, including EFFLA (2011-2014), RISE (2014-2017) and – since 2017 – the HLG on Innovation Policy Management. Over the past two years, he has been leading project BOHEMIA (Beyond the Horizon. Foresight in Support of the Preparation of the EU‘s Future Policy in Research and Innovation), aiming to help prepare the next European framework programme. Matthias holds degrees in process engineering and political sciences, and a PhD in economics, all assigned by the University of Stuttgart.
