Senior scientist at INRA, in a multidisciplinary research unit on Mediterranean forest ecology (former director of this laboratory), in Avignon.
As a geneticist, I develop two research axes related to forest adaptation and sustainable management of forest genetic resources, with a focus on Mediterranean forests :
- my first line of research is the micro-evolution processes in trees (local scale, few generations), and the impact of management practices on these processes ; this research relies on experimental work and simulation approaches ;
- my second line of research is the assessment of the adaptive potential of forests seen as dynamic social-ecological systems ; this research is supported by interdisciplinary approaches interactiong with other disciplines of life sciences, forestry sciences and human sciences
Beyond my research activities, I am also involved in supporting policy of forest genetic resources conservation and adaptation of the forests to climate change, both at national level as president of the national Commission on Forest Genetic Resources (CRGF), and at European level as national coordinator and member of the steering committee of the European Programme on Forest Genetic Resources (EUFORGEN).
