Dr Christa van Zyl is the director in the office of the Deputy CEO for Research in the Human Sciences Research Council (HSRC), South Africa and the first person appointed to serve as Research Integrity Officer (RIO) at the institution. She holds a PhD in education and a MBA from the University of Pretoria. Her career at the HSRC spanned research, research administration, institutional planning and performance reporting, and current professional interests include the promotion and recognition of responsible conduct of research. Until 2013 she was the South African National Contact Point (NCP) for Socio-Economic and Humanities (SSH) and Science in Society (SiS) under the EUFP7. From 2014 to 2016 she served, as one of two South African country experts, on the OEDC-Global Science Forum Expert Group on Research Ethics and New Forms of Data for Social and Economic Research. She is currently one of three persons on the steering committee of the newly-established African Research Integrity Network (ARIN).
